Objective: Students will outline the events of their Thanksgiving Day.
Time: Varied
Grade Level: Varied
Materials and Resources: Piece of paper and pencil for each student
Instructions:
- Ask students if they have any Thanksgiving traditions they are looking forward to.
- Discuss how each family has their unique traditions and how we want to learn about each.
- Explain to students that all of them are going to be creating their own flow charts describing the events of their Thanksgiving day.
- Encourage students to make these detailed so they can compare with another student the different ways families celebrate holidays.
- Have the students pair up with another classmate randomly and compare flowcharts with each other.
- Come back together as a class and discuss some of the similarities and differences between traditions.
For example:
Wake up → Eat cold cereal → Play a game of football with cousins → Make placemats and name cards for each person attending → Help mom make the stuffing → Help make the deserts→ etc.
Tips for Successful Implementation: Pair students randomly to increase the chances that traditions will be unique within partnerships.
