Being Helpful

It is likely that during the school day you will find time when there won’t be any students in the classroom. It is tempting to use this

time for your own personal benefit, but if you would like to truly stand out as a substitute teacher consider offering assistance to the office staff.

During the lulls in the day, I’d encourage you to walk down to the main office and let them know you have a few minutes to which you could help wherever needed. This action will not only astound the school secretary, it will also allow some individual time with the school secretary. That way s/he may get to know you and may therefore start requesting you to come substitute teach at that school more often.

Do you take time to help the office staff? If so, what benefits have you experienced? What are some of the services that they need help with?
